Readings
related to the April 3, 2015 event at the ADA Technical Books,
Seattle
The
promised preview
of a book in progress. The
draft consists of an Outline and several chapters on which I most
need feedback at the present. I am ignoring the rule that for general
public all equations must be removed. I would like to write for
people who are willing to put in some effort in order to learn
something worthwhile. So please tell me if this might work, and what
could be improved in my treatment.
All of
these essays will eventually find their way into the book:
Essay
on the Basic
Problem of Science and Society.
Brief
Tour essay illustrating the Basic Problem.
Essay
of the Freedom
of Will in the Quantum Universe.
Essay
on Bach's Art
of Fugue.
Essay
on Beethoven's Piano Sonata “The
Hammerklavier”
The
best way to comment is to attach ADOBE sticky notes and/or text
highlighting (both options are available in the free ADOBE X reader
(now they seem to offer ADOBE Reader DC – see below) under
“Comment” menu item
Update
April 22:
I prepared a screen
shot “annotated” (by me) to show what can be done.
The connection between the yellow marks in the text and their
contents on the right is two-way; hovering on the sticky note will
show you the contents, double clicking will enable editing the note.
And the actual
PDF corresponding to the example will enable you to play with
this annotation system – just click on the Comment menu item in
the upper right-hand-side corner, if you don't see the “Comments”
menu item this means that you need to save the pdf and open it with
your own ADOBE DC (that is available for free from
https://get.adobe.com/reader/
- I made another
snip showing the Comments menu in ADOBE Reader DC.
.If
you wish to use any other way (ordinary email message, snail mail to
my UW address [V.Chaloupka, Physics Dept. 35-1560, University of
Washington/Seattle 98195 -1560]; anonymously if you wish …) -
anything will be most appreciated.
Please
remember that all this writing is in a draft form. So do not spend
much time on copy-editing – rather, ask questions about what
seems not clear enough or requires too much effort, let me know if
you disagree with any of my ideas and claims, etc.
